What does Neoprene Meaning
Neoprene((also polychloroprene) is a type of polymer. It’s a synthetic rubber that exhibits good chemical stability and maintains flexibility over a wide temperature range.
Neoprene was the first ever successful synthetic rubber created, dating back to 1930. Natural rubber was in such high demand during the 1920’s that the prices kept rising. The demand leads to a search for a comparable synthetic rubber. It was during 1930, that a chemist (Wallace Hume Carothers )from DuPont, produced a rubber-like substance that became Neoprene.
Neoprene is sold either as solid rubber or in latex form and is used in a wide variety of commercial applications, such as laptop sleeves, orthopaedic braces (wrist, knee, etc.), electrical insulation, liquid and sheet-applied elastomeric membranes or flashings, and automotive fan belts.
Among other things, Neoprene is entirely waterproof, which makes it an ideal material for wetsuits and other gear designed to insulate against wet and cold environments. Also known as “scuba fabric”.
Types of Neoprene in Diving Products
Neoprene materials can be produced in two different forms: solid neoprene sheet and neoprene sponge. In Diving Products,we usually use the Neoprene Sponge.
Your Might Heard CR Neoprene Material, ECO-Limestone Material,SCR Neoprene Material, SBR Neoprene Material.
But Actually only CR and Eco Material is real Neoprene.
Normative Interpretation:
“Neoprene” = “CR” ≠ “SCR” ≠ “SBR”
“Neoprene” just refers to the “CR” (Chloroprene Rubber), but now the industry “Neoprene” include “CR” (Chloroprene Rubber), “SCR” (Chloroprene & Styrene Butadiene Rubber), “SBR” (Styrene Butadiene Rubber).
“CR Neoprene” scientific name “Chloroprene Rubber”, is an elastomer synthetic rubber produced by chloroprene polymerization based on petroleum.
“Eco-Friendly Neoprene Sponge” is not produced by petroleum extraction products, but is a synthetic rubber produced by polymerization of acetylene gas produced by burning limestone. It has uniform microporous cells and can withstand stretching and bending for a longer period of time. Can reduce the consumption and dependence on oil.
